Review of Maharaj (2024): FilmFollowing his two consecutive adaptations of foreign films, We Are Family and Hichki, Siddharth P. Malhotra now focuses on his Indian heritage. He illustrates how foolish our society and women were in that age by using a story from British India. Since we know that great filmmaker V. Shantaram produced far superior films on similar topics in the 1930s and 1940s, it is, to be honest, too painful to watch such films being produced today. Although Malhotra’s plot is from the same era, his execution is much more antiquated than V. Shantaram’s was. With the sole intention of avoiding the headache that it is based on a “true story,” Maharaj handles the same old issues in a dreadful manner. But really, was this the society of the past? If so, man, shame on them.The story of Karsandas (Junaid Khan), a journalist, author, and social reformer who is getting married soon, is the subject of Maharaj, which is based on the very contentious Maharaj Libel Case.
